WISE ABOVE!

You've heard the phrase "rise above it", right?  That means if someone is trying to drag you down, don't go there.  If someone puts us down, says negative things that may or may not be true, don't feel the need to do the same thing back.  Don't let someone steal your power.  You have the power to be wise and wise (rise) above it.  When you ignore negativity, it usually goes away.  Just say to yourself, "Yea, whatever.  Moving on."

Yesterday I was talking with a wise person, a mentor, about a bad habit I'm trying to break.  That person said to me, "You're better than that.  Remind yourself I'm better than that."  What simple advice, but you know what?  It's helping.  I am better than that.  You are too!  Wise Above.

VALENTINE POLL

Voting was a tie between "Love It" and "Whatever".  Looks like very few people "Hate It."  You had some excellent comments about using Valentine's Day to express love and appreciation for a variety of people in your life (friends & family :-) not just boyfriends.

MORE - continued from ONLY FORWARD post

I would say: Go get em girl! You can do this! Where God made you weak, He made you much stronger somewhere else. Get to know and love yourself now instead of waiting. Don't say it unless it is true, stand for everything you believe in, celebrate God's creation of you by being the very BEST you, you can be.  Sonya, age 30-something

Don't believe "everyone is doing it" -- most of the time it's just talk. Others are wishing they could be brave and say no and stand up for what is right. Also, your parents are the best friends you'll ever have - listen to them!  Vicki, age 50-something

Never do anything that you would be sorry for later on in life , respect your parents and they will always trust you and it may not seem like much to you right now but believe me when you are older and look back you will be proud to say i never gave my parents any problems. Put the Lord first in your life and everything will work for you.  Brenda, age 70

Your period will come...trust me.  Sarah, age 30

Live on your own before you make a commitment to another person. You don't need live-ins (girlfriends or boyfriends).  Have friends that let you be you, it's okay to be different than them. Ask, ask questions and if you don't understand the answers that you're getting keep asking.  Not because you don't like the answer, because you want to know the most knowledge you can get.  Gwen, age 52

Lots of good information from these ladies.

Ask the wise women in your life what they would go back and tell their 12-14 year old self if they could.  That question might be the start of an interesting conversation!

ONLY FORWARD

One thing for sure about life, you can only go forward.  There are no days when you can wake up and have it be yesterday.  This is why your decisions are your future.  What you decide or do today impacts tomorrow and the next day and the next.  I asked some friends, all women, what they would tell their self if they could go back in time to 7th & 8th grade...assuming their 12-14 year old self would listen to their adult self?  Below is what they said:

There will be plenty of time for boys! Don't worry about fitting in during high school, after high school clicks don't exist (as much)! Study - you can never get those years back! Cherish your Mom! No matter how much she grounds you. She will be your best friend in 10 years!  Briahna, age 25

There are sooo many things, but if I had to narrow it down I would say to myself - keep being true to yourself and be who you are. Don't waste time on people who don't value you. Keep on being kind to everyone but only really invest in those who show themselves to be true and value you for who you are.  Kellie, age 39

DRAMA LLAMA!

Llamas are usually gentle happy creatures, but watch out!  When drama is around, they turn into Drama Llamas.  Eek!  The following activities bring about the presence of Drama Llamas:  forming an opinion based on only one side of the story, gossiping, talking negatively about others, taking sides about stuff that doesn't really matter which only adds to the drama--and if you worry more about other people than you do yourself.  Be careful ladies.  Keep the Drama Llamas away!  Ahhhh!  ;-)

HEART PINATA

Did you see the movie Valentine's Day?  What did you think of it?  There have been some years when I could totally relate to the heart shaped pinata scene.  Whack!  In fact, I considered buying one and having it on reserve this year--just in case.  But this year has been nice so far.  Hope your day has gone well.  I've learned not to get too hung up on holidays in general.  It is easy to get excited or disappointed on special days.  It is more important to remember you are important every day of the year.  <3

Results Are In!

Thanks for voting!  You said the top 3 coolest things that Emily Joy had to say were:

1.  She finished college even though she had to support mom and little brother.  (36% of votes)

2.  She said, "I don't waste my time on the past or on bullies."  (27%)

3.  She survived bullies in middle school.  (18%)

She had many great things to share with us.  I'm going to ask Emily to do a guest blog on this site so check back soon.

Did you see our first picture posted on the blog (below this post)?  I'm looking forward to posting more!

In fact, please send me a picture of a wise woman in your life (or a picture of you and that wise woman).  Attach the picture to an e-mail with a couple sentences about why she is a wise woman.  E-mail me at glennasue34@yahoo.com.  Or take a wise woman picture and text it to me with why she is a wise woman to 513-373-3144.

Thanks to all who have been reading the blog and thanks to those who have become registered followers of the blog.  I hope there is something on the blog for everyone.  If you ever want to suggest or write a post topic, let me know.  :-)
