CLOSING OUT RELATIONSHIPS - for now.....
Everyone who voted could think of someone they knew who has been in an unhealthy relationship. Eek. No surprise, BUT what does that tell us???
I'm gonna close out the topic of relationships for now, but you knooooooow we'll be chatting about them again. Relationships of all kinds (family, friends, etc.) impact us every day. Give some thought to what is healthy or unhealthy about relationships around you.
Thx!

WE DID IT! 1000+
Ladies,
Strike a pose. Woo hoo! We are over 1000 page views. In fact, 1004 at this very moment. Way to view, read & keep up w/ the blog. I thought we might hit 1000 around the end of May. I was wrong! "You've been there, done that"!
Here's an oldie but a goodie song to celebrate. Bet you've heard it while roller skating.

HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
Below is a list from the Ohio Domestic Violence Network about healthy relationship green flags.
Does your partner....
* View you as an equal?
* Respect you and treat you fairly?
* Listen to you?
* Discuss disagreements peacefully?
* Value your opinions?
* Communicate openly and honestly?
* Support your goals in life?
* Compromise?
* Make your friends and family feel comfortable?
If you answered "yes" to all of the above, then you may have a healthy relationship with the person you are thinking of. If you answered "no" to any of the questions, then you may need to make decisions about whether to continue the relationship or not.

UGH! GRENADE THIS SONG
I like some of Bruno Mars songs, but every time I hear this one I think, "Yuck, yuck, don't listen girls!!!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR6iYWJxHqs
What's the deal? Here are some of the lyrics that drive me crazy:
I'd catch a grenade for ya,
Throw my hand on a blade for ya,
I'd jump in front of a train for ya,
You know I'd do anything for ya.
In my opinion, this song praises unhealthy relationships and unhealthy thoughts about break ups. Gross! Do you agree or disagree?

RELATIONSHIPS
Hi Wise Women,
We spend a lot of time dealing with relationships and relationship issues, don't we?
Girlfriends, boyfriends, family, etc.....relationships are everywhere. If a relationship is not healthy, then it may be emotionally time-consuming. Here is an excerpt from a Planned Parenthood pamphlet:
Healthy relationships are based on mutual respect and trust. Coercive or abusive relationships are based on manipulation, pressure and force and they are unhealthy. Think honestly about your relationship. Answer "Yes" or "No" to the following questions:
___Does my boyfriend/girlfriend try to tell me what to do, how to dress, who to be with?
___Do I spend most of my time worrying about our relationship?
___Does she/he ignore me or disrespect me when friends are around?
___Have I quit doing things I used to enjoy since I've become involved with this person?
___Has my girlfriend/boyfriend ever threatened or intimidated me?
___Has my my girlfriend/boyfriend ever physically harmed me?
___Does my boyfriend/girlfriend insult me, put me down or make me feel bad about myself or my body?
If you answered "yes" to ANY of the above questions you may be involved in an unhealthy and manipulative relationship.
You deserve the best! Don't waste time on unhealthy relationships.

New POWER Question
Q: What helps girls and women get in touch with their power?
A: Well, girls/women having confidence on the inside and out. For example if people are trying to get you to do something you don't want to do...use your power to stand up for yourself. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can not do. It is your choice, your life, you have to live with your decisions...not them. Also, if someone puts you down you shouldn't just ignore it...you need to stand up for yourself. Don't wait for power, take it. from---Alyssa
Thank you to all the 7th grade wise women for sharing their ideas about power on our wise women blog! Woot, woot!

POWERful Continued....
More regarding Question: What prevents girls and women from having power?
7th grade guest blog answers:
What prevents girls and women from having power is that they think someone else is better than them when they're not. Or someone could just be giving up their power like if someone is bullying you or you give up your power to like a boy or not. from---I<3McDonald's
When someone puts you down, you lose confidence. If you don't have confidence, you usually do not have the courage to be a leader and speak what is on your mind. I feel that typically a girl wants to stand up, but is not able to have the strength because of her confidence level. In my opinion you don't need physical power because emotional power will get you further in life. from---MINGMING<3
What may cause girls and women to lose power is stereotypes that say we aren't as smart or as brave as guys; and the constant pressure if you want to impress others. from---Lil Elmo :)
....afraid of being made fun of. If you stand for what you believe in or share your opinions. I think if you don't speak up then you won't have a chance to show how smart you really are. from---Ana

POWERful GUEST POSTS
I asked a group of 7th grade girls a few questions about personal power. The next set of posts will share their answers.
Q: What prevents girls and women from having power?
A: What prevents girls and women from having power could be giving in to what others say just to keep hold of some sort of "rep". To get into your power would be to try to keep up with it and try not to give it away to any body. Power is something you take. You can't earn it or wait to get it. You take it when it can be used. ---from powergirl99
A: I think men sometimes take away your power. Standing up for your self can strengthen your power. I think dealing with other women that have the same power helps them feel their power. Power is power. Use it, own it, work it! ---from Mael
A: I think the biggest thing that prevents girls & women from having power is that there are people stopping them & blocking their path from being powerful women. They use hurtful words, also. They're just trying to make you weak. ---from Lunatic =)
That's it for now. Stay tuned. I'll post more in the next few days. These ladies had great things to say. If you want to comment below, go for it.

P.S. I think we'll turn Power Weekend into Power Week!!! BTW, we have 700 blog page views now. Do you think we'll hit 1,000 before the end of the school year?

POWER
684 page views on our blog. Now that's some power. Or...is it?
What is power anyway? Do women have power? Power comes in many different forms--body power, money power, political power, academic power, power to speak your mind, power to express oneself honestly. Some people say that girls who express their power feel good about themselves. What do you think?
Talk to us ladies. If you have an example of personal power or an example of what might prevent women from having power, then please comment.
Thanks,
GSE
